Two measurement traits are important in achieving the quantitative measurement task: measurement validity and measurement reliability. This measurement topic is focused on quantitative studies because it is not relevant to the aims of qualitative research. While this may seem obvious, it is important not to confuse variables and measures-measurement tools provide information about variables, they are not variables themselves. The point of quantitative measurement is to objectively measure characteristics, features, or variables of interest. Measurement Validity & Reliability in Quantitative Research qualitative and quantitative measurement and data collection approaches.validity and reliability principles related to quantitative measurement. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and investigators are faced with significant challenges in planning the measurement/observation aspects of their studies. This chapter is concerned with the many different approaches to observation that are commonly utilized in social, behavioral, and social work research. Remember that one defining characteristic of scientific inquiry is that it involves observation. Module 3 Chapter 5: Overview of Methods for Data Collection and Measurement
